Just visiting
I have to be honest, I truly believe Ducati have gone BONKERS and totally lost the plot... TOTALLY. The 1198R Corse Edition paintwork is without doubt STUNNING, but MCN have reported it retailing at £39,000. Which is in line with what Gizmo reported last week.

I paid £30,000 for the 1098R Bayliss Rep, which being blunt was also O.T.T. Remembering that the new 1198R IS THE BAYLISS 1098R, I challenge anyone to come on here and justify where the "value" in the additional £9000 is...

I actually feel sorry for Martin, he will wear his red tinted glasses and actually try and justify that price, whilst at the same time think privately "how the fcuk can that be right ??" Ducati seem to have this arrogant perception that high end metal will be bought by mugs like me regardless of the price tag, I was already planning a Ducati bale out, this just accelerates it.

Can someone on the forum explain to me how homologation works ?? The 1098R's last year were short in their numbers for Superbikes, so DUK pre-regsitered them and discounted them. Will the same not have to be done for the 1198R ?????? The reason I ask, if they couldn't sell £24,000 1098R's when the world was breathing, how do they sell £39,000 1198R's when the world is fcuked.

A Desmosedici RR or a 1198R for the same money.... decisions, decisions... shame my ZX6R was faster round jerez than both of them... ah well.

I cant argue with that, they will sell but in limited numbers. Ownership will be for the exclusive few then somewhere down the line the surplus will be discounted. Then who'll feel like a mug..or robbed?

I don't think i could put up with the comments of ' You could of had a desmo for what you paid for that '. Unless i had a desmo as well that is :lol2:

If correct , truely arrogant pricing by Ducati and even injury free (touch wood) I can see my current Ducati being my last.

For the couple of weeks a year of half decent weather its just not worth it.

Off topic I know but just a small point. I rode the 848 on Thursday in the middle of a gale with driving rain and rivers running down the roads and surprise, surprise it didn't melt and brought me home in one piece.

I wouldn't normally ride in this type of weather but it was the funeral of a dear friend and 65 bikes turned out, two of which were Ducatis. There were problems with electrics on a couple of Harleys, a Yamaha and a Suzuki but the Ducatis never missed a beat.:D

Gizmo had put a post up about European pricing last week. I thought "no way"... but hey, MCN have the published prices.

Martin will be the best one to advise, he's the guy that's got to sell it. What I can't figure is why the 1198R (which is a 1098R) is so OTT, yet by all accounts the New Multi-Strada seems to be reasonably priced.

It can ONLY be a tactic of Ducati to drive sales in a particular direction surely ??? Dunno.

Ducatis never missed a beat.:D

I have never had an issue with electrics on any Duc and last year rode in some foul weather - never let down once. The D16RR came down from Aviemore with snow up to the wheel rims and again, never coughed ONCE. It's the imagine the rice burners like to paint of Ducati. Trouble is, with current pricing, it's a Da Vinci....

UK price for 1198R is £29,995. (same as Bayliss)
Euro price of 1198R is £39,900 (if I remember correctly)

It's easy for me to justify that on an 'R' I've got one as most of you know. They are simply stunning!

I wouldn't like to say how much mine has cost to date but it's a fair bit more than a Bayliss!

Justification - dead easy!!:)

Mart:)

How much for the 1198R Corse Special Edition ?

Or are the 1198R and the 'Special Edition' the same thing ?

Apparently there is only ONE 1198R, and it's the Corse one... at £29,995.... humble pie time, that's not a bad deal.

When you think back to 2004 (I think), I paid £20,000 for a 999R Fila Rep, then £21,000 in 2006 for the Xerox 999R, in the grand scheme of things £30k for the technology advances ain't bad.

So where the F*** did MCN get the £39,995 from then ???

I guess its not too bad then, especially if you also get the Corse leathers, helmet, gloves and boots as well ?

Got to be a couple of grand of gear there, so 28K for the bike ? ;)

I still shudder to think that in 1996 my 748BP was £11,250.00 list for a while - that REALLY puts things in perspective. Needless to say price was dropped so that Ducati could sell some..

For the meantime (til me numbers come up) I might consider the alloy tank (hey, a handmade one for my BSA is around £400 - a mass produced one for a global player like Ducati surely won't break the £200 mark..;)) and a paintjob for the 848

Back to the initial post.

If I had the cash I would have a R sitting in my garage.
No questions asked.
I would also be slinging it round Knockhill & hopefully not DOWN Knockhill.
Its a hell of a good looking bike as is the Bayliss.;);)

Me Wants one.

That makes no sense???

I presume the 39k is Euro?

If so, then that make a Euro worth £0.75?

I just checkd and today £29995 = E 33319
Or reverse of E39900 = £35919

Either way it is totally BONKERS!!!!!!!!!

Ducati have lost the plot completely. As it would appear also some of those close to the brand!

The pricing is not clear to me from reading these posts. Is it £39.9k or E39.9?

Much as I love Ducatis and I can now afford a new one again, I will be in no rush to buy one at that price..especially given how much they depreciate by. Paying top dollar is fine if you have a decent resale value...but the resale value isn't descent and I object to having the @@@@ taken out of my loyalty to the brand...by the brand itself.

I think the 1198s is overpriced in the current climate.

Besides..the 1198R will be no quicker from A-B on most roads than me and my 800. I might hit a drystone wall a bit harder though.

It's all relative when it comes down to it.
One guy decides $350k is a price to pay for a glove - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8372773.stm
MD has no worries spending 30k on a bike exotica (or erotica as the fancy takes you)
I'm struggling to justify £80 on a mobile phone cos I flung me last one in the river about 2~3 years ago and have so far been able to do nicely without one
and my eldset daughter scrapes to put £10 in her tank to get her to work for a couple of days.
No doubt there's someone in the world who sees £10 as sheer luxury and a months wages
I saw the guy on the Rory Peck awards filming the father who has just sold his 8yr old son for $1500 so his 4 other children won't starve to death.

It's all relative.

£29,000 £38,000 ?
who cares , all of you guys have enough pocket money to dispose on a nice Ducati.
thats part of the gig ,
hope your looking forward to getting back out..

What a fantastic post and one I agree with 1000%. First of all there seems to be total confusion over the price, Pound or Euro. DUK and the dealers say it's £29,995, MCN Say £39,995. The 39,995 is the EURO price, but with the Euro and pound at parity - is it not one and the same. If the UK network are selling them at £29,995, I guarantee you the biggest customers will be EUROPEAN DEALERS.

Depreciation... Ducatis depreciate like third world currencies, live with it, move on... I have learned that the HARD way.

1198 Overpriced in today's climate, YES... in fact overpriced in ANY climate TBH.

disagree with that post. I paid £37,500 for the D16RR so paying £38k for a bike isn't the issue... getting the utter p1sh ripped by a company that THINK buyers will pay anyprice for the latest model, well that leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, and that's EXACTLY what this is... It appears that Ducati think they can sell anything at any price... it only APPEARS that way.

Yes, the bike (1198R) is AWESOME, best I have EVER seen - but's it's a 1098R Bayliss with a PAINT-JOB which itself was a 1098R with a paint job... £24 - £39... THINK NOT :mad::mad:

it's NOT all relative then... he's just SOLD the relative... sorry bad taste - but couldn't resist it

BOLLOCKS - I'll have you know that my many personalities and faces have not lost the plot... although we are heading that way :D:D:D

How are they going to meet homodulation numbers with a more expensive 1198r if they nearly failed to sell enough 1098r's last year?

I,d much rather have 2 Streetfighters than 1 1198.....:D

OR

1 Streetfighter & a lot of cash left over for beer.....
