After a bit of neglect I binned the ensuite today & got the rear view mirror sorted. I'd wanted to just have one mirror, underslung the throttle grip. However, the front brake mount didn't have the facility to mount a mirror & I couldn't come up with a good place, that I liked, to weld a mounting to. The clutch lever mount did have a mirror mounting hole so I decided to try & use that instead.
The mirror I'd bought some time ago though had a mounting arm that was too short & the wrong angle for what I had in mind, i.e. mounting it below the clutch lever. Had I mounted it in the "normal" position, above the clutch lever, I think it would have worked. Anyway, I had to make a new mounting arm. I also didn't want a mirror that mounts in the end of the handle bar, that would have meant machining a hole in the throttle grip, which I didn't want to do.
So, I got a length of 304 stainless steel bar & machined the ends to suit, a M8 thread on one end & a rounded end on the other. As mirrors have a habit of moving I machined a slight counterbore in the spacer that butts up to the underside of the clutch lever mount so that a serrated washer can grip the two faces & hopefully help prevent movement.
The picture below shows the original arm with the new one above.
The serrated washer will hopefully prevent the spacer & hence the mirror, rotating against the lever mount.
The mirror temporarily mounted, I've got some dome headed nuts coming which will look better than just a plain or nyloc nut. Hopefully this will work, the arm is long enough so that I can see past my leg & to following traffic !

The charging system arrived yesterday so I got that fitted today. The stator was a simple bolt on job, not forgetting the Loctite !! Then the spacer washer followed by the rotor slid on next followed by the big washer that fits between the rotor & engine drive pulley. The one supplied in the kit is 5.5mm thick, but I need one around 4mm. This washer is a bit too thick though to give me the correct alignment between the engine pulley & clutch drum so I'm going to make a suitable sized washer out of a piece of stainless steel bar that should give me perfect alignment between the engine pulley & clutch drum.
The bike is booked in next month to have the exhausts made, after which the only other big job will be the painting. Once the exhaust are done the only thing stopping me getting it running will be the magneto, these have risen in price quite considerably since I bough the last one !!
