What about them ?Shareholders?
... Read my posts here.I am pissed off with my electricity supplier, Octopus, over their refusal to answer any emails. I looked at changing but found the everyone that I looked at is more expensive. Dale Vince's Ecotricity is mind blowingly expensive, but all of them promise me higher bills and none of them answer emails, anyway. It seems to just not be done anymore. so I will stay with Octopus and concentrate my mind on cocking them about! The bonus is that I will feel no guilt!

Also, how do they communicate with the supplier? Mt current shit provider is Octopus and they say that I can't have one - even if I did want one. When I looked at switching, yesterday, another said that it was complusolry. I queried this, as Octopus told me that I couldn't have one and they said that I really must but would not mind if I refused. I wondered if it was down to poor mobile signal that I have here?Has anyone been conned into having a smart meter ?
I don’t get how they can save you money, only advantage (if you want to call it that) is readings are done automatically.
Seems to me to just be something else using power and the wifi.
And you can't switch to a small supplier!Has anyone been conned into having a smart meter ?

Odd. I wonder why Octopus said that I couldn't have one and nobody mentioned having to have an internet connection. Anyway, doesn't matter as I don't care. I am pretty sure that when smart meters become widespread, it will be used as a tool to rip off customers!Internet connection I believe.
Must make it even easier to cut you off.![]()

Pretty much every home in Ireland has a smart meter, or will do soon, we had ours installed in Dec. They’re being rolled out FOC to the consumer. No benefits as far as I csn see apart from telling you how much electricity your using, if you go online to look at it - can’t see how that’s a benefit myself, you either need to use the electricity or you don’t. It does mean the supply cos can stop having to pay for meter readers so a saving for them but not you or I.And require updating due to obsolescence![]()
Another very important issue, which may or may not apply to one of our previous territories.Pretty much every home in Ireland has a smart meter, or will do soon, we had ours installed in Dec. How do they connect back to base? Via the 2G phone network. Afaik, that’s due to be phased out soon so yes, a complete waste of money, underwritten by the Govt in the name of ‘Going Green’.
If you a newer meter with a flashing LED, you can have one of these... circa £60 and it will report to your smart home device or phone.I am going to hang tight until smart meters are made compulsory, or they can show me that I will make significant savings. I hear some shit ad on the radio from some company who reckon that you don't need a smart meter, but just an app on your phone. Is the average person too thick to know what devices use electricity and how much - like with irons, am I exceptional because I turn an iron on when I need it and then turn it off when I am finished with it? Do many people just leave them switched on all the time and then scowl when they see how much their electricity is costing them?
It is like my dieting. I find that it makes an exceptional difference to weigh myself multiple time per day - NOT!!!
Alternatively you can use this near your distribution (fuse) board (we use this).I am going to hang tight until smart meters are made compulsory, or they can show me that I will make significant savings. You know you can take a horse to water, but sometimes you are better off borrowing the Vet's pistol."Greater awareness"? Like you will be shocked over how much electricity your iron uses? This shit will tell you to turn it off when you are finished, you DUMB SCHMUCK!!!!
And you save on feed and vets' bills!!!!You know you can take a horse to water, but sometimes you are better off borrowing the Vet's pistol.

A standing charge is added to most gas and electricity bills. It's a fixed daily amount that you have to pay, no matter how much energy you use.an almost 100% increase in the daily standing charge
, is that just so they can keep a lid on the per unit charge?
Privatisation, good isn't it.A standing charge is added to most gas and electricity bills. It's a fixed daily amount that you have to pay, no matter how much energy you use. A standing charge covers the cost of supplying your property with gas and electricity. Think of it as a line rental, but for your energy.
Somehow the cost of getting electricity to my home has doubled?
Only if I sold all my Pfizer stocks at $60 and invested in Centrica last year...Privatisation, good isn't it.
will the rise in your share price cover it ?
