Tesco has just announced that its revenues over the past 26 weeks topped £31.5billion. It will pay 25% tax on its UK profits.
Over the same period, the North Sea's biggest oil and gas producer made £1.9billion, which is roughly 94% less than Tesco.
The North Sea operator pays 75% tax on its UK profits, potentially rising to 78% after the Budget, because it is making 'windfall profits' in the eyes of government.

For the record, the reported H1 post tax profits were £1.02 Bn (Tesco) versus £57mm (Harbour). Tax paid was £370m Tesco vs £335m Harbour.

So ... no standing charge tariffs - yay - and don't worry that actual usage charges will go up to cover, thus causing people to reduce their usage.
This is a sensible strategy compared to high S/C, lower per unit costs, if your idea of sensible is to eliminate cheap energy and throw us all into a new Stone Age.
Simply not true on the Heat pump statement.
However I accept that they are totally useless for most properties.
Over half our property is heated (cooled) by them, but there is no way I could completely replace Gas central heating / hot water, well not without causing a local ice age near Heathrow.
I hear the same shit all the time about getting risk of FF... Heat pumbs are a good job if the house is brand new and specced up to bejaysus.. That the highest rating in Ireland above A+
other than that you may aswel try heating older houses with candles

Heat pumps are extremely good at making 35° water temperature. So long as you have plenty of low temperature emmitters* then no problem heating a well insulated house.
Issues start when customers or plumbers wind up the heat to +45°C... then back up heaters (immersion style) kick in and the running costs sky rocket.
* Underfloor heating, oversized radiators etc.

You don't need expensive air con guys to install a heat pump.... its water in and water out... just make sure the flow is at least 25/l per minute.
The Fgas license stuff is behind another cover, just need a big power cable and +30mm pipes in/out.
Our ideal delta T is around 8-12°C (heat added).
I'll happily PM anyone who is seriously considering this.... no eco-terrorists please.
