6pm tonight someone rings our doorbell.

I answer the door holding our dog back, to find a woman standing outside holding a I-pad and a covered identification badge.

"Hello" she says " How are you?"

"Who are you?"

"I've got my identification badge here " she says waving a covered badge holder.

"So, who are you?"

I'l show you my badge in a minute"

"No- who are you?"

"TV Licensing"

"We don't talk to people who doorstep - you can leave - there is a sign on the door saying "No Implied Right of Access"

That isn't for me"

"Oh yes it is - now clear off" - and I slammed the door shut.

She walks away to a blue car and eventually drives off

Key Tips for a TV Licensing Visit:
  • Do Not Let Them In: Enforcement officers cannot enter your home without a search warrant, which is rarely obtained.
  • Do Not Sign Anything: Refuse to sign any documents, particularly a "Record of Interview" or TVL178 form, as this acts as evidence against you.
  • You Have the Right to Privacy: You can tell them to leave immediately and revoke any implied right of access to your property.
  • Keep Conversations Brief: You do not have to answer questions about your TV viewing habits. Simply saying "I do not need a license" is sufficient.
  • Filming is Legal: You are allowed to film them on your own property.
  • Confirm ID: You can ask for their ID and confirm it via the official TV Licensing website.

Today - nothing but lining up for another productive weekend.....planned is....

1. Take winter tyres off the zed - refit supercorsa's for summer.
2. Assuming my new spanky MosFet RecReg's turn up - fit all of those.
3. Pre-emptive work on the $XV....after finding the loose/tired coil connection, gonna partially strip it and go over the loom to check all of the connections, plus take some measurements and maybe if the credit card can take the beating maybe order some 5ohm [stock is 3ohm] dyna coils.
4. Speak to my $XV hoare crack dealer [the lad i bought the bike from - he's always messaging me with tempting performance spares] and negotiate a slipper clutch (hes got a few)

Dads finally out of the nhs dementia ward. Not before they tried to kill him last week with methodone patches. He's only supposed to have one a week which is a slow feed due to his back problems they won't operate on because of his age, he was zombiefide and checked his back, 3 patches:mad:

Gone into a nice quiet place with his own tv and all things taken care of. Brother took him their yesterday and within 30 minutes he's phoning me, I need my white tv remote. Out for an hour and barking out orders already

I must confess its hard to comprehend what youre going through....both my parents remarried and the one i really cared about (my Dad) cutting a long story short was gone within 2 weeks. The other 3 ive no contact with anymore...

Edit: sounds bad about the other 3....not really...one i was never close to and she wasnt close to me or my brothers and the other 2 are fucking nutters. Life has been bliss without them (i think 25 years since ive seen them...)

Took the car for a service last week. Noticed today that the service due warning was still on. Thought FFS have I got to drive 30 miles to the garage to get to reset, because I rely on it to remind me of oil change time. Rang him up and he said there is a procedure for resetting it yourself without plugging the car in.
I'd never have guessed it in a million years. Apparently, you have to switch on the ignition, open the bonnet and the driver's door, sit inside and hold the accelerator and brake pedal down together for one minute. 😳

Switch off and start the engine and the service warning should be reset. It worked, but Landrovers are weird. Why not just have a reset button on the steering wheel??

Because they like to do the service themselves and anything a bit complicated would be left to the dealer

I go through a similar accelerator / brake pedal dance for the dash warning but I can't do the infotainment counter without plugging it in 🙄 oh well it will stay on zero miles to service forever 🤣

Do you have to do it in that order as well? And if you get it slightly wrong the airbags deploy.
Reminds me of the teachers instructions in Meaning of Life. After you've had your haircut and you've written your letter home, move your clothes to the lower peg…
You english are so delightfully quirky! What with your backwards motorbikes…etc…

I won't go anywhere a Landrover dealer. They're notorious for charging squillions on parts and labour and for not knowing anything about Landrovers, which is a far from ideal combination.

Fortunately it's long since out of warranty and I have an excellent independent Landrover specialist within a reasonable distance who's happy to pass on a bit of inside knowledge and tries to save his customers money so they keep coming back.
A main dealer would have booked me for a month's time and charged me £75 for doing what they forgot to do in the first place. And they'd probably have broken something else in the process.

Backwards motorbikes are made in Italy by two mad blokes in shed. They've made two so far, both now in another shed in York as far as I understand.

Having diagnosed and replaced a faulty fuel pump on a Beemer Boxer Cup rep last week which was a real ball ache job I've moved on to a seized rear caliper on an early '80s CBX1000. Removed and stripped down quite easily this morning it's cleaned up well and all ready to re assemble in the morning then fit back on and bleed. Then on to the next job, more seized calipers this time a pair of fronts on an '82 (I think) injected Z1300 kwacker. Suspect these will be a bit more challenging than the CBX.

My mechanics mate has just had a new engine fitted in his Discovery by the main dealer. It was done under warranty but he had to pay 2k, the total bill was 27k!
They refused to give him warranty on the new engine, what does that tell you?

Tells me it's one of those hideous 2.0L wet belt things that no dealer will take in part exchange. The (utterly useless off-road) and horrifically expensive new shape Defenders are even worse. Sub-100,000 mile catastrophic engine failure common. £35,000 for new engine, £25,000 to fit. I know of someone it's just happened to. With the original purchase price that's a perfectly decent two bed semi-detached house round here.
Fortunately the Freelander 2 was the last real Landrover and probably the best car they ever made with a solid 240,000 mile lifespan Peugeot engine.

After 15 years, I finally got the hang of it.

Press and hold the Odometer Reset button until the service icon or menu appears on the instrument cluster. To scroll through the menu, use the BC button (on the turn signal stalk) or steering wheel controls. Highlight the service you want to reset (e.g., oil, brake, or inspection).

His had done 50k. I’m not sure which model but would be quite new.
25k to fit a new engine is ridiculous but I guess they have to lift the body off the chassis.

If its an older mark 5 disco 17-21 it could have had a 3 litre V6 which are a great engine. I have had several but the fookers chanced them in late 21 to the 3 litre ingenium engine which is pretty shit but not nearly as bad as the 2 litre which will go bang once a year.. that's not a an exaggeration if any sort of miles are been done ... disgraceful how its not a major court case at this stage

My mechanic is a Land Rover specialist. His dad runs a disco 3 and the mechanic has a Range Rover and a newer disco.
He takes a yearly warranty out on the disco as he knows how bad they are.
He showed me some pictures of a disco that he put a second hand engine in and the body was up on the ramp and the chassis and engine was on the floor. Took him 5 days in total.
When my Range Rover V8 dropped a piston liner he fitted me a recon engine with top hat piston liners for 4.5k which was a bargain at the time.
I’ve had Defenders, Discovery’s and Range Rovers and they’ve all been shite and cost me a fortune.

Timing belts are the same they get done at 225kms but fuckers don't bother as its body off to do properly I used to pay 2500 euro to have the belts done .. they had a reputation of snapping cranks but every dickhead builder I knew snapped

I've owned nothing else since 2006 never had a single issue that's both range rovers and discos.. couple of cracked air intakes prop shaft bearings and they eat brake discs for fun .. never had a single engine issue that required they engine coming apart ..I use a specialised who does shit before it happens. He's not cheap but you get a video on day you drop it and you decide what you want to do .. I definitely won't be buying any new motors as I have zero interest in any of the new shit and the fact I have no vehicle payments means I holiday every 5 weeks.. im gone again this Friday as long as the Spanish air traffic control don't screw me .. this is far more important than any new reg plate now at this stage of life .. I lost hundreds of thousands on cars through my twentys and thirties but now I couldn't be arsed i will just keep fixing triggers broom preventively 🤔
