Watch Thread

I have an old Rolex Date-just (not worth much and no box/papers) and I wear it every day - I scratched the crystal when bathing the last dog (not the one we have now) and brushed against the wall.

I don't see the pleasure of buying an expensive watch and not wearing it, and I don't understand the pleasure of not wearing a watch either - a bit like going out of the house without a handkerchief.

Mind you, I've always been a Tool (despite my father not being a Toolmaker) 🤪
I have my late fathers 18cwt Gold Rolex 3/4 face in it's box from 1952 (y)

I cannot understand how people can take their Grandfather's/ Father's War Medals to Auctions (such as we see on Flog It) - they would mean so much more than a few quid, if they were my relative's medals.
I lost a badge that my nan gave me in my twentys, a family member, i can't remember what ship he served on during WW1 but i do get pretty pissed off about it!! I have another family members journal from 1847 when he was in the Royal Artillery, Augustus Jowrey from Kings Lynn, it's leather bound with the most exquisite writing. He married an Irish girl at Kings Lynn and and they are both burried at Kings Lynn!! I want to pass it on to my son or donate it to a museum if he thinks thats the best thing to do!(y)

You've either got "class" or you haven't - Omega's are great watches (y)
I've raised 3 kids to adulthood and spent loads to educate them and it just seems like a nice thing to do.. Mark the half century and at the same time I will be 25 years married.. The last watch I received was a Raymond Weil bought by my wife when we got engaged 3 weeks before tying the knot.. It's the watch I'm wearing out now 👌

True story -

My wife had a solid gold Raymond Weil ladies wristwatch which disappeared after two carpet fitters fitted a carpet in the adjacent bedroom (the watch was in a drawer in a bedside cabinet). This was around 12 years ago.

We didn't notice it was missing immediately, but couldn't prove that it had been stolen by them. Ever since, anything of value is removed from areas where they could be stolen by visiting tradesmen.

Five years ago, we went to the same carpet supplier to order new carpets and mentioned the watch loss to the owner - " Ah yes, that would be Tommy, - he died in a car crash three years ago" was the response.....
