This looks like a nice classic gold tank watch - currently on the British Heart Foundation EBay site

Not exspensive, but a tidy watch at a fair price. A couple of years ago Swatch entered into a collaberation with Omega and launched the Bioceramic MoonSwatches.

Part of the agreement with Omega was that they are not placed online for sale and are only available new, from just 13 official Swatch stores in the U.K. and nowhere else in the U.K.. These are being sold in the Stores for £240. Today I bought the Moon version. It is a bit plasticky as it's made from bioceramics but that makes it lightweight and easy to wear.

The link a bit further up has the 13 locations of the only Swatch authorised outlets. Also, genuine swatches get free batteries for life.

Lastly, My nearest store was Covent Garden which meant going into Londonstan, it was like walking into the united nations. One bloke even spoke English 👀👀

I saw these and thought, I bet a few in here would wear one 🤭

I have an old Rolex Date-just I bought from a pawnbrokers I used to work for (when I had a disposable income).

No box or papers, so it was cheap when you get 25% staff discount - I think I paid just over £1340 for it eleven years ago.

The bracelet gave way a couple of years ago, and as I wear the watch everyday (and being now semi-retired on a restricted income), I put a black leather strap on it - something I've found to be far more comfortable for everyday wear.

Anyhow, I'm thinking it's due a service, so as I am not paying Rolex Dealership prices, I've found a small business in Huddersfield where the guy services upper-end watches, but he can't give me an estimate without seeing the watch.

I guess that's because a fair number of fakes get sold as "genuine", only for the new owner to find out when it goes for service. I remember a big West Indian guy wrecking one of the pawnbroking company shops in Liverpool when the Manager told him that his Rolex was a fake. The Police were called but not before he smashed the place up, accusing the Manager of swapping the movement in the back room.

I'm trying to get Elsie to take it in for an estimate tomorrow, as she is going to Huddersfield to meet her mates, and will be passing the business, but she is digging her heels in as she is worried she might lose it ☹️.

If I can persuade her to take it in for an estimate, what do you reckon he'll quote???

I had my GMT serviced at the Rolex Service Centre, was £600 flat but didn’t need parts.

As your thinking of going to an independent would expect a basic movement service around £250, if you want parts replaced that’s when it gets icky.

That bracelet is really stretched, they can be tightened but it’s a laborious process and may need tack welds on worn parts and then polishing/blending, sometimes it’s easier to source a new strap.

Only going by the photo you’ve put up but looks like it’s previously had a bezel polish and a further one will flatten it to the point it’ll need replacing. Case and lugs look ok though so a light polish will suffice.

Any dents in the case sides?

No dents - I looked into replacing the bracelet but decided I couldn't afford it..... ☹️

So the watchmaker in Huddersfield spent 10 minutes explaining to Elsie, how a Rolex has over 1000 moving parts in many layers, and the old oil deteriorates over time, requiring cleaning and re-lubing.

Basic price is £750 plus any parts ☹️

Back in probably the 90’s I took my Rolex to Watches of Switzerland in Manchester because there was something wrong with it. I’d had it maybe 6 or 8 years. They said ‘we send them back to Switzerland - it’s £250 flat fee’ - something like that.

They called a few weeks later to say it was back - when I went to collect it there was no charge and they apologised for the inconvenience.

Can’t you just take the back off, spray the inside with brake & parts cleaner, air blow it dry then spray GT85 over the parts?

That’s probably what the man does 🤣

This place in Huddersfield has been recommended on another forum.

A Date-just Service starts at £320

There is at least a price list on their wbsite

Fuckers ruining it for the working man sure no point getting into this racket at that low low price 👀😂
