What have you done on your bike today?

Why not do what i do and get a cheapo hack just for 6 months?
I've thought about it. It would have to be a dual purpose/trailie of some sort that can explore the small roads, byways and tracks as main roads aren't much fun when winter's in full blast. Always wanted a 690 Enduro but that isn't a cheapo option. Something along the lines of @SHarper 's Beemer might do the trick.
It won't be this year though. If there's not horizontal rain or a foot of snow on the ground I'll be working every weekend.

You certainly are a grumpy old fucker this morning.
Interestingly, maltodextrin is in almost all bourbon biscuits in the UK.

Maltodextrin is a fast-acting toxin that quickly enters the bloodstream, causing extensive harm to your metabolism & health.

I don't have biscuits in the house. Would you like me to research what toxic materials I might have handy? Bleach, perhaps?

I don't remember the last time i had bourbon biscuits to be honest , or any biscuits for that matter.
Good to know what's in them though so thanks for the information.
Just back from walkies with the doggies and about to chop some wood for the fire before late breakfast of kippers and coffee.

If you wants a biscuit you're probably better off eating the dog's.

There was a BMW f650 for sale near me during the summer. One owner from new in 1997 and something silly like 15000 miles for about £1200. I should have bought it despite it being so fugly.

That'll do for today.

A bloke in the village has one. He likes it. He just potters round occasionally in summer with a couple of old boy mates. I think it would be a little underpowered for me and it has all the aesthetic appeal of a bulldog licking piss off a thistle. It wouldn't quite be the forum's least aesthetically pleasing bike, as in good light with your glasses on you can actually tell the front from the back, but it would probably take the number two slot.
A 900 GS might do the trick though. I seem to rememder Gunznbombs from Mordor had one with something like 130,000 miles on it that was still going strong.

The BMW F900 GS Trophy is a pleasant thing to ride but it's more complicated than a multi-engine passenger jet.
Lots of gadgetry. Lots.

Come come now, your Bender Diavel isn't that bad - remember there are Fuglystrada lovers on here!!! 😮😮😮

I had an f800 last year for the winter . That was quite capable too but fuck me was it dull. Instantly and absolutely forgettable. That said I'm watching one on eBay now as they are perfect in the winter. I got caught out in a storm and was astonished at how good it was in torrential rain.
I loved mine and despite the smaller capacity motor to all the big dogs on the road I never got caught lacking but not exactly a riveting ride a bit like the bigger 1200s

If you go for a GS800, don’t go for the fat arse GSA, it’s15kg heavier ( approx 23kg heavier when full of fuel)
The bike had a major overhaul in 2013, earlier ones had stator issues and skinnier forks amongst other things.
Mines now got 106,000 miles on it, in that time it’s had three lots of steering head bearings, a clutch (not cos it needed it, I was going to Russia and did it as a precaution), a set of fork seals, a pair of discs and a rear brake calliper.
It’s not the most exhilarating bike, but if I wanted to fook off tomorrow, it’s the bike I’d probably take…

I had one of those when I was going through a sensible phase…I used to get those every few years and they never lead to anything positive in any way whatsoever. In fact quite the opposite. I got rid within 4 months. It was like a two wheeled Allegro, without the beauty. Don’t do it.

Not today, but last weekend.

When I rebuilt the engine in 'White Lightning', I also completed a service, including brake pads, which have never been changed in 40,000km. When changing the fronts, the retaining pins were siezed and I rounded the allen head socket bolts trying to remove them. I could have messed about and got them out, but I had seen a brake upgrade that was available using a Brembo caliper and a custom bracket.

She's now 'Endo' compliant. :)

Another contender is a 2010-2014 Triumph Tiger 800. More engaging engine than the BMW, equally proven longevity, marginally more power and similar price. AFAIK the only recall on these bikes was for the centrestand spring and the only reported "issue" is the plastic chain guide channel on top of the swinging arm which rubs through after about 6000 miles and has to be replaced for £25.

I have ridden one years ago before I bought my 990 SMT. I liked it. Nimble and lively enough. And you can get a XC 21" proper soft-road version with spoked wheels that'll cope with mild trailie riding. I remember Bike magazine featuring one years ago on their high-miler back page section. The bloke had ridden round the world on it and covered 200,000 trouble-free miles and had no plans to replace it. It's a possibillity.

Had a great weekend away on the bike with a group of adventure riders. Mostly novices like me as it turns out. We had to be on the beach early to take advantage of the low tide. There is a couple of spots where you can only get thru in a time window of two hours. And they are approx one hours ride from each other.
Once you are on the beach there are only a few places where you can get off and a couple where you need to be brave by the look.
