When the Yamaha R1 came on the scene an old mate of mine( now passed over, bless him ) bought one and was going to work early one Tuesday morning in the fog up the M4 doing about 55 in the middle lane and hit a fully intact pallet. He later told me he had zero chance of avoiding it, he was in a bad way and nearly died from his injuries. Nothing prepares you for that, just like getting hit head on by a drunk driver while on a C90 Cub, no experience or reactions can get you out of that!! Lap of the Gods sometimes.

Yea i was hanging out the window giving it large to the truck diver and he was all wide eyed, palms up like to say " what? I done nothing wrong" .. fucken twat was probably looking at his phone.
I was on a country road a few days ago and an oncoming slow moving tractor drifted into my lane, I moved over as far as I could without going down the bank and into the river. As he sailed passed, very narrowly missing me, I noticed he was texting on his phone. I don't think he looked up or saw me at all....

A matevof mine was on his bike behind a logging truck that spilled it's load. No way out. He tried to dump the bike and abandon ship but a log took him out before he could. He lived but was pretty messed up for quite a while.
There are scenarios where there is fuck all you can do but so many "accidents " are avoidable. You don't need a super human skill set either in a lot of cases, just good observation and not being complacent..
Things like, if there is a slow moving vehicle in the opposite lane, on a straight you can be pretty sure at some point some impatient fucker will at some point pull ot to pass it. Keep ya wits about you and be as left as possible in advance. We nearly got taken out like this a while back, B was driving. Although she has good " driving" skills she has zero defensive driving skills and is oblivious as to what other drivers are up to. It worries me a lot tbh....

My x wife was going to book me one of those courses ran by Hampshire police for my birthday. Can't remember why but in the end she booked a day at a bird of prey sanctuary, fucking great day out that was.

Along time ago I stopped at a roundabout on my moped and the car behind me went into the back of me and sent me sprawling down the road. How was that avoidable by me other than by staying in bed that day

Whilst in Taiwan, working for the man, on a drive home I was stationary in a traffic jam when a taxi drove into the back of my car. Although I had no idea what he was saying, the taxi driver was clearly irate, more so when his fare simply got out and caught another taxi.

It appeared that he was looking for me to pay for the damage and the crowd was getting larger, so In the end I called the foreign police (who spoke English) but it took them over an hour to arrive by which time the taxi driver had completely lost it. The police compiled a report that said the taxi driver was at fault, but the case would need to go to the traffic court, and we all went home.

Anyway, for a contact address I gave the HR dept of the company I was based with, as they were fluent in mandarin. In the end they told me I had been found to be at fault for "Not keeping sufficient distance from the car behind", but when the taxi driver called requesting a new taxi they politely told him they had never heard of me...

Such strange rules of the road that being a foreigner, I wasn't aware of.....

Oil and filter change, new front brake pads and new battery on the multistrada.

Had to buy two new filter spanners to get the old filter off. The Ducati one just slipped but Halfords one and a pair of mole grips saved the day. It took 3 1/2 litres of oil to hit the top mark on the sight glass. Wondering if this will drop after I fire her up in the morning and the oil circulates.

The exhaust and front cylinder need a tidy up so that’s next on the list…..

Talkign of oil levels, I've noticed dealers these days seem to put in the minimum safe quanity of oil. When I had my KTM 1190 dealer-serviced last (I usually do it myself but wanted the book stamp this time as I was thinking of selling it) I saw they charged me for 4 L of oil. It was on the bottom quarter of the sight glass, which is about 3.8 litres. I know for a fact it takes 4.2 to take to max, but that involves opening two 4 L bottles...
The Diavel was the same. Dealer serviced it prior to sale and the oil level was only a quarter above minimum. The dyno shop where it was remapped topped it up with half a litre (which they didn't charge me for) before they were prepared to do a dyno run.
Folk wisdom on t'internet says the DVTs use oil and you have to keep checking it. Mine doesn't. You just have to put the right amount in in the first place.

Dealers, meh, my new (to me) motor had apparently had the oil and filter changed prior to me picking it up, 150 miles later - almost home - low oil warning topped up with about 1/2 litre and not had an issue in 3,500 miles - Guinnesss

Today after going insane stuck in the flat i had to give the Enfield a good going over. It needs new handle bars, front brake lever, 2 rear indicators , a headlight, rear light lens and the thing i was dreading, the rear wheel is buckled with a thrown spoke. Not as bad as it sounds as they are £50 so roughly to renew all the broken bits is £164, not to bad!! The front right foot rest needs to be bent straight and a slight bend in the rear brake bar. I've just sorted the exhaust pipe out so thats nice and straight, both front wing mirrors are all good and the front wheel is nice and true. All in all not to bad.

Eyewatering no doubt, i was going to try and start it (Enfield) but a can't get on it i might give it a go tomorrow, i'll unplug the side stand killswittch so i can start it.

Yep it’s a 1260dvt and it definitely drinks oil. I think it gets jealous sitting beside the rd so identifies as a two stroke.

I found theories online about not burning oil if you were enthusiastic with the revs running in. Unfortunately I didn’t follow this approach. Also on different riding choices (lots of motorway vs twisties) and consuming less if motul used.

Was told it’s supposed to take 4 litres of oil on a change, but I’ve used 3.7 to get to the top mark on the sight glass so must have left some of the old oil in there. Doh! Anyway have noted the mileage and will keep a closer eye on how much it gets through.

Also tried harpic bleach on the down pipe rust with quite good results so happy with that. Now I’ve cleaned it, it’s bound to rain so my apologies to all for bringing this good dry spell to an end…..

This afters, I went to Leeds, to have some new tyres at ‘Bike Tyres Leeds’, it’s worth the 40 mile journey ‘cos they're really competent, always have a great selection and know their onions.
Anyway, apparently I need new wheel bearings, they’re tight knackered rather than sloppy knackered.
Does anyone know if they’re covered under warranty? Or know where I can find out?
Is there a Ducati App or a website, I need to download/visit to find out about my bike?
Is bearing replacement straight forward, or are there special tools? I’ve changed many wheel bearings in my time with a drift and a hammer only Wayne could wield, but I’d hate to start twatting it then find you need a special tool or there’s a hidden circlip.

Steve, I believe wheel bearings are classed as consumables and not covered by warranty, but I'd ask Ducati anyhoo, you never know.
Just as an afterthought, your mutley wheels are spotless, have you been cleaning them too well and reduced the life of those bearings?

I would doubt there are any circlips on your wheel bearings - Wayne method will be best snd they should only be a few quid each from suppliers other than ducati dealer (to be fair ducati dealer may be ok on price}
