I'm even more ashamed to say that I haven't been there either as I've always wanted to and I don't live that far away.took Elsie and our dog (Lucy) to Bamburgh Castle - I'm ashamed to say that I have never been there before.
Elsie took the dog onto the beautiful beach for a paddle (the dog, not Elsie) - I stayed in the car park having paid £6 to use that facility.
We would have toured the castle, but they restrict dogs to the outer grounds![]()

I took myself up there on the Triumph two years ago for my birthday. I fully intended to have a walk along the beach, look round the grounds and tour the castle. I'd only seen the place on TV and I imagined it stood in glorious isolation above the shore like Dunstunburgh. I didn't realise it came with a full village attached. It was the first sunny weekend of the spring and the place was rammed. Couldn't even find a spot to park the bike so I rode straight on - I hate crowds. I meant to stop and get fish and chips at Seahouses too but that was rammed as well. I'm afraid I just went home.
Must make the effort to do it soon and I'd like to go to Chillingham as well - maybe stay the night in one of their haunted rooms...
You're always going to pay top dollar in places like Seahouses. Whitby I imagine is the same - though again I've never stopped there because it's so busy. I know I should..We called at Seahouses for Fish and Chips but Elsie refused to pay the £18 (they didn't do the smaller portions) - so we ended up in Tynemouth and she paid (with my money) £11-50.
