What whiskey/whisky are you drinking? 🥃

Interesting this evening, or maybe not. Tesco's has a member/points card and some of you will know they also do a yellow label on many items so if you have a card, you get those items at a much lower cost such as scotch

Me, I can't stand the stuff 🤮

but I noticed some of the scotch's were down from £35 to £22 and others with around £13 off

Jura Journey £22, Laphroaig single malt 10year £26, jura 10 year old malt £26 etc etc

There is no point in me listing all of them as someone is bound to say they are the shit ones :cautious: but the whiskey section on tescos if you have a clubcard, might be worth a gander?

Sainsbury’s also have some very good whiskey deals right now. Plus 25% off wine for 6+ bottles (unless you are called Barry).

A full-bodied, silky-smooth single malt from Glenmorangie, finished in a Quinta Ruban port cask, creating a rich chocolate flavour. Gentle aromas of Seville oranges and walnut build into rich dark chocolate, sandalwood and spicy pepper. The palate initially offers notes of mint chocolate, walnuts and orange develop into Turkish delight and summer flowers.

£26 for the Laphroaig seems cheap to me. I have to pay €50-60 a bottle here 🙁

I've never taken much notice but it does seem a good deal, I've been fortunate in that I don't really drink that much whisky and I've got a large backlog of Christmas 'turkeys- when that was a thing and 2 cases of my old mans millennium whisky.

Get a trip up to tesco in Derry 😁 surely worth it for a bottle of grog 😂

Hmm, Derry is about 600km and 7 hrs drive away, I think I’d spend more on fuel than I’d save on excise duty plus it’s highly likely I’d come back with a dose of the Covids, it’s rampant up there.

No, I’ll just have to pay the extortionate taxes our successive Govts levy on booze in a foolish and worthless attempt to dissuade the Irish populace away from the evils of the drink 🙁

Fair enough, is there no local discount on the Jameson 🤔 you could always dunk a sod of peat in for the Laphroaig taste....

Around this time of year the owner of Jameson and most other big brand Irish whiskies, Pernod Ricard, puts them out at €20/bottle so that’s the time to buy, usual price is €26-28. Fortunately we also have a very good local distiller, West Cork Distillers, who in the last few years have been turning out a great range of whiskies which are finished in a variety of casks for a further year or two after their initial 3 year maturation, and yes they have one that’s slightly peat flavoured due to burning peat in the finishing cask before the whiskey’s added. Then there’s Connemara whiskey which is Ireland’s only truly peat flavoured whiskey due to its water source but none of them compare to the rich peaty flavours any of the Islay malts have and even the local ones are €30-40/bottle🙁

Morrisons are doing Jura Journey at £22. It's not an aristocrat among malts but still more than acceptable, especially at that price. Laphroig 10 yr old also on offer (personally I would avoid the immature Laphoig Select. It's often discounted in supermakets but has a bitter aftertaste and lacks depth). The 10 yr old is a different kettle of fish altogether.
Morrisons also doing Highland Park 12 yr old at £25. That is a bargain for a very fine smooth malt.
