My empire of dirt...

Cheers guys! It is gunna take a good few years though!
The small section I did yesterday is about 4% of the floor area and took all day. That's without any of the other elements being done, just pull boards, clear out and do some temporary packing.. at that rate it would be 20 days full time to complete that element and probably double that to complete the floor.. that's 12 weeks full time!!
Obviously that could be sped up quit a bit by stringing full weeks together and working more efficiently but it's bits and bobs stuff and not being able to do full time, it's gunna take many months just to get house level and structurally sound....
Still, it is what it is and we will see it through!!
Every Lil gain is really encouraging and fun.
Also unfortunately me and B don't work well together when it comes to building work so I'm on my own with it 99% of the time.
Don't get me wrong, she keeps us going in so many other areas, I couldn't do anything without her and certainly wouldn't have even bought a house.
a laborer would speed things up 3 fold I'd say!

Yep, we're the same, so we stick to our own jobs. I did the brick laying, she did the pointing, I did the plasterboard she did the scrim etc. It works better that way.

I've been the same when decorating. I get agitated when a partner tries to help mostly because I know I will end up stopping what I'm doing, spending ages trying to show her what to do and the watching her doing a shit job to then walk away and leave it. This obviously causes delay and frustration.

I worked out that if I offer "hey why don't we go halves on getting it done by a professional ?" they rarely choose

Orrr, When I decorate then I tell the wimmin "I'm in charge so keep me in food, beer and if she see's me climb a ladder then that's a sign for her to contribute and give me a blowey."

Decorating...I've tried it once. Just painting - I stopped an hour in and phoned a decorator. One of the better decisions I've made.
I fucken hate painting.. did it for 8 years ish before carpentry.. I keep getting dragged back every now and then. In fact, I'm just heading out to paint a small room for an old girl just down the road.
Still, I'd rather do painting than dig holes and move dirt!!!!

I was on a promise once I finished so it was a double edged sword.
She delivered so I was at peace with the world again.
Shallow I know but but my primal instincts always let me down.

A whole house...I would want a written contract with a series of ever more exotic acts to be performed at my beck and call.

Actually - I think I'd stick with the faked death.
