Depends what you’re prepared to eat surely, see things like chuck in the oven pizzas, ready meals etc for £1-£2.
I’m convinced supermarkets were behind ‘five a day’ fruit and veg (I know they’re not your thing) used to be cheap, once they’d come up with that shit they put a big green tick with ‘one of your five a day’ label on and went X10 on the price.
Wankers.
I don’t consider those food.
Food is nutrition - there’s very little in those. Eat it and feel hungry again in 3 hours.
Instead you can get a kilo of chicken thighs for £3 that would be two meals and far more nutritional benefit.
In the west we now treat food as entertainment.
Nutritionists and doctors say we need ‘a balanced diet’ intimating that we should eat a mix of foods. What other animal does that? None. Bears will eat berries when meat or fish isn’t available…that’s about it.
The notion of needing multiple food groups is a made up construct. You’re right about the 5-a-day…it started off as 7 but they thought that’s too many for people to consider manageable.
We need nutrition - meat is the only food group that provides every nutrient humans need. And it comes with the correct elements for us to absorb the nutrients, unlike those from vegs.
